Portraits drawn with the greatest attention, dedication and passion for your beloved pet animal !
About the Artist.
Peter was born september 1954 at Heemskerk, The Netherlands.
Photographs taken when he was just 3 years old testify to his early
fondness of wielding pencils. At the age of four he could already draw
an elephant which had its trunk in the right place.
Photographic likeness in minute detail has ever since been the hallmark
of portraits made by Peter.
Apparently, there is a genetic component in the ability for drawing and sketching, since other family members have shown similar artistic inclinations. But despite genetic disposition Peter did not turn into a full-time artist. Instead, he became a pharmacist and has been working now in the industry for over 20 years.
During his university study however, he picked up portraiture and made dozens of human portraits, exclusively done as black and whites.
After he left university, pencils were no longer sharpened until 1998. In that year, Peter decided to blend together his old hobby of portraiture and his love for horses, in particular Quarter Horses. He and his partner Francis have been Reining enthousiasts and horse owners since 1993.
His first "equine" work was still done in black and white, but after a half-coloured "canine" adventure, Peter has explored the magnificent possibilities of conte crayons and made this his favourite medium. The conte colours and their endless shading nuances can be worked into wonderful and warm effects creating very vivid images.
Drawing a Striking Likeness requires a good quality photograph. A picture can be drawn from a much smaller sized photo provided it contains sufficient detail. A composite drawing based on several photos is also possible.
The images shown on this website are photographs of the original drawings, needless to say that many details and some colours are less clearly visable as on the originals, these images are just to give you an idea about Peters Art Work !
